Sofia Ranchordas

Sofia Ranchordas is a Full Professor of Public Law and a  Rosalind Franklin Fellow at the Faculty of Law of the University of Groningen and a Professor of Law, Innovation, and Sustainability at LUISS Guido Carli in Rome (part-time position). She is also an Affiliated Fellow of the Information Society Project at Yale Law School. She conducts research on public law and technology from an interdisciplinary perspective. She is particularly interested in how technology is disrupting traditional legal concepts in administrative law, in particular in the context of local regulation and governance (smart cities).

She holds a PhD degree (cum laude, highest distinction) from Tilburg University and the University of Antwerp.  She studied Law and Economics (cum laude) at Utrecht University and Law (LLB and LLM, summa cum laude) at the Universidade Catolica Portuguesa (Portugal). After her PhD she was a Visiting Scholar at George Washington University Law School (2014) and a Resident Fellow at the Information Society Project at Yale Law School (2015-2016). She is the recipient of both national and international grants and awards (e.g., Niels Stensen Fellowship, Knight Foundation, NWO Smart Governance, KNAW). She held previous teaching positions at Tilburg University and Leiden University. She is a frequently invited speaker at international conferences.
